These maps provide information on agricultural, forestry, and urban biomass waste available for energy production. Generally, Wyoming has low biomass production, but some local resources exist.

Geothermal Energy

The resource map details the potential for direct use geothermal resources, generally resources ranging from 68°- 302°F. Geothermal heat pumps are typically feasible in all areas of Wyoming. The state possesses some developable geothermal energy potential.

The Virtual Hydropower Prospector is a fascinating, but complex tool, allowing site specific analysis of potential hydropower locations. Please contact Extension for assistance in using the software. Wyoming possesses numerous locations with the potential for small-scale hydroelectric production.

 

Solar Energy

Solar Thermal and Photovoltaic Resource Maps

The solar resource is slightly different for solar thermal (e.g. water heating) and photovoltaic (creating electricity). Overall Wyoming has a good to very good solar resource.

 

Wind Energy

These maps provide a summary of both wind speed at 80m and wind power and 50m. Much of Wyoming has an excellent wind resource.
